A Perfect Day For Home Schooling

This was a very special day. We decided to home-school Kimberly for one day. Included in the curriculum were extreme physical training, geography, science (studies about sealevel, elevation, vertical drops), meteorolgy (we found out what windchill factors really mean - and feel like), social skills, some math, etc... Located in the "snow corner" of New England, Mad River's 250 inches of annual snowfall combine with uncrowded slopes free of snowboarding, and a pristine mountain environment to create a skiing experience like no other. We picked the perfect day. Temperatures were in the upper teens and lower twenties, of course feeling much colder with a strong wind blowing. Blue skies and lots of sun made up for the cold though.....

These pictures were taken on the top Stark Mountain, called the Stark's Nest, Elevation 3637"

Lunch recess took place in the base lodge, elevation 1,600", where we studied our map....

Of course we took advantage of a few "windfree" moments in the warm sun...

Britney went to preschool today and got to stay at a friends house for a long playdate.
Her ski season was just as fun though. These pictures were taken on March 9, when Britney and Mom had a wonderful afternoon at Suicide 6, in Woodstock, while Kimberly enjoyed her last skiing lesson with the Woodstock Skirunners.

St. Patrick's Day brought the last big snowfall this year. 10 - 20 inches were forecast, we ended up with about 12" or so. Britney got her little orange shovel out and decided to help Daddy with the shoveling.

TKD Wintercamp 2007

March 2 - 5, 2007

TaeKwonDo Wintercamp was held in Wells, Maine. We got GREAT rooms (apartments) at "The Village by the Sea" resort. Most all of the Randolph students and their families came to either watch, train, learn something new, celebrate, or simply kick back and relax at the wonderful indoor pool. Activities included morning workouts (I am still feeling it), sparring drills, Poomse Tournament, of course black belt testing, One-step seminars, Jump-Front-Kick Competition, and "Happy Hour". The kids and the adults had a fantastic time.

The New Black Belt....

March 3, 2007

Kimberly tested this Saturday for her Black Belt In Sanford, Maine. She was one of 10 candidates. With about 200 people in the room, including a black belt testing board, Kimberly did very well. The testing lasted about an hour and 30 minutes and included basics, kibons, free kicking, poomse or forms, board breaking, sparring and of course many many push-ups. We are very proud to announce that Miss Kimberly Buckholts has passed her testing and joined the world of Black Belts.
